Geology of the Crescenta Valley

Monday October 17th, 7pm
at the Center for Spiritual Living

The Crescenta Valley was born from a marriage of natural disasters - earthquakes and floods. For hundreds of thousands of years the mountains on either side of us - the Verdugos and the San Gabriels - have been pushed skyward by massive earthquakes. Nearly as fast as they rise, they fracture and fall back into the Crescenta Valley, where the rocks and boulders are pushed across the landscape by giant floods. Hear how this landscape was formed, where the earthquake faults are located, and what geologic changes we can expect in the future.

Independent oil geologist Thom Davis will be our speaker. He lived in the valley for many years, and has become fascinated with our dynamic and constantly changing landscape. His views are sometimes controversial so be prepared!
