San Fernando Valley historian Bronwyn Ralph will take us on a guided tour of some of the most unlikely sights you'll ever see in our neighboring suburban valley. First up we'll meet at the location of the Old Trapper's Lodge sculptures. Many of us remember the quirky Old Trapper's Lodge near the Burbank Airport. After it was torn down, the dozens of bizarre Western-themed statues ended up in a back-lot at Pierce College where they are slowly decaying. Next we'll visit the last working farm in the SFV, Tapia Brothers Farm. We'll end our tour at Los Encinos State Park, where ancient Spanish adobe structures sit near a spring-fed lake. Not your typical San Fernando Valley scenes!
Meet at Pierce College, and we'll caravan to Tapia Bros. and Los Encinos.
Directions to Old Trapper's sculptures at Pierce College: From 101 (Ventura) Freeway, exit Winnetka, turn right. Left at Victory. Left at Mason (entering the Pierce College Campus). Right at El Rancho. Alvin Cleveland Park (containing the sculptures) will be on your right side.
