Foothill Blvd. between La Crescenta Ave. and Rosemont Ave. was the heart of this community in the 1880's when Dr. Benjamin Briggs founded La Crescenta. The Boulevard hosted an amazing array of features, from a grand world-class hotel, to an infamous insane asylum. You'd be surprised at how much is still left from over a century ago. Take a walk with the Historical Society of the Crescenta Valley to hear stories of what was once here and to discover some of the hidden treasures of Foothill that you never knew were there. This will be a leisurely stroll, less that a mile on mostly level ground. Wear comfortable shoes and a hat, and bring a water bottle.
The stage coach from Pasadena stopped at the La Crescenta Store and Post Office in the 1890's. Tourists regularly came to the Crescenta Valley for its resort hotels, and to gaze at the famous Gould Castle.
