Deukmejian Stone Barn Tour

Sunday, September 3rd at 4:00pm
3429 Markridge, Rd, Glendale
View Map

The stone barn in Deukmejian Wilderness Park was built by the wine-making Le Mesnager family in 1915. Long planned to be a nature center/museum/community room, its restoration has been plagued by a lack of funding. But currently the interior renovations are under construction, and the Historical Society has been invited to be the first group to preview the work.

We'll meet at the entrance to the barn on Sunday Sep. 3rd at 4:00.

This is a "HSCV members only" tour.

Galco's Old World Market is one of the oldest businesses in Los Angeles, family owned since 1896. In the last few decades they have become famous for their selection of soda pop. They have specially recreated such out-of-production favorites such as Orange Crush, Dr. Pepper and RC Cola. As well they stock regional favorites, such as Moxie and Delaware Punch. Lately they've expanded into imported and craft beers and wines. You will be amazed at their selection of candies from your childhood (wax lips or candy cigarettes anyone?), plus toys and novelties from the '50s and '60s (Gumbys, paddle-balls and balsa wood gliders). It's an entire store dedicated to retro, that has been visited by Huell Howser not once, but twice ("Amaaazing!").

We'll have a personal tour by John Nese, the owner and creator of this amazing store. Plan to have lunch at Galco's Deli afterward, while you sample some of the unusual sodas you've purchased.

Galco's Old World Market is located at 5702 York Blvd in Highland Park. They have a large parking lot adjacent.
